Goofy TV Show Spinoff

Impractical Jokers: The Movie (2020) on IMDb

Plot Overview

seeing SantaFour high school buds Q (Brian Quinn,) Joe (Joe Gatto,) Murr (James Murray,) and Sal (Sal Vulcano) have fun crashing a Paula Abdul concert at the Staten Island Civic Center in 1992. They so enjoyed their on-stage prank that they formed their own comedy group called Impractical Jokers. We catch them twenty-five years later doing a Lost Santa routine. It's either funny or shocking, or perhaps a little of each.

While dining at the Red Lobster one day they are interrupted by the same Paula Abdul of old who is now a fan of their show (“except for season 5.”) She seems to have forgotten their original dustup and invites them to her party in Miami. They accept and we follow them (and their crew) on a road trip there replete with comic antics.

Ideology

As puerile as their humor is, they have arguably blundered into role model territory, in the vein of, (Prov. 30:24) “There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:” The first is that they seized opportunity early on when their peers were still focused on girls & cars. (Prov. 30:25) “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;” Their first acts could not have been all that strong, but they had plenty of time to perfect them. The summer of life (youth) is the time to start squirrelling away resources for the winter time (old age.)

(Prov. 30:26) “The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;” The three tantamount principles in real estate are: location, location, location. Location has a salutary effect on other businesses as well. When they had an opportunity to take a road trip, they hopped right on it. Their kind of comedy lends itself to the tried and true road trip for fresh material.

(Prov. 30:27) “The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;” Their kind of comedy works really well as a team enterprise, and they learn not to let others break them up or shave off a member.

Fantasy Island Express(Prov. 30:28) “The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.” The spider does well once it finds a happy niche. Performing arts flourish in New York where these comedians have their base of operations, on Staten Island. Returning, Murr takes a separate plane, a bi-plane doing stunts. Antique airplanes operate in their own niche in the sky as pertains to altitude and many other rules, although they are required to have modern radios to contact the tower or whatever. Similarly, comedy acts inhabit their own special niche with appropriate allowances.

Production Values

” (2020) was directed by Chris Henchy. It was written by Joe Gatto & Chris Henchy (and others.) It stars Brian Quinn, Joe Gatto, James Murray, and Sal Vulcano. The main actors just acted like themselves, there were a couple cameo appearances of stars, and the participants on the street seem to have been unaware they were being filmed.

MPAA rated it PG–13 for suggestive content, language, some drug references and brief nudity. The production was rather rough owing to reliance on equipment set up for portable travel on the road trip. However, the film was none the worse for it. The movie balances pranks and plot quite well.

Review Conclusion w/ Christian Recommendation

I thought all the jokes were pretty stupid, which is kind of embarrassing because I laughed so heartily at many of them despite myself. It's that kind of humor.
